3.0 ‘How to start a CIS’ Tool Box
Marion Morra gave a report on the lauch of the CIS Tool Box.
On Saturday, July 8th, Isabel Mortara (UICC) launched the CIS Tool Box prior to the start of the workshop. Dr. David Hill (UICC) opened the session speaking of the necessity and importance of having cancer information services in all parts of the world.
35 participants pre-registered for the pre-conference workshop, with ten additional participants registering on the day of the course and 15 regretfully had to be turned away due to lack of space.
Marion Morra thanked the both Ana Olivera and the UICC for their help in preparing for the workshop. Marion also reported that the evaluation was very positive and declared the workshop a success. High marks were given by participants on all presentations. The participants enjoyed the support from other members during the round table discussions and workbook exercises. It was suggested that there should be two versions of the course – one basic and one advanced.
Chris Thomsen encouraged members to access the CIS Tool Box through the ICISG website, login to ICISG resources (http://www.icisg.org/resources/public/login.aspx ) to register and receive a password. Chris told the members that the tool box was an international effort, with the information in each chapter drawn from the experience of various cancer information services members of ICISG. The tool box is also available in PDF format.
Anne presented the mission and goals of the organization. She introduced the members of the Board of Directors and thanked them for their contribution during the 2004-06 period. Anne summarized accomplishments as follows:
