ICISG AND UICC COLLABORATION

The International Cancer Information Service Group (ICISG) and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) are partners in an effort to strengthen the delivery of cancer information.

The ICISG is an independent network of 45 cancer information and support services from 30 counties formed in 1996 to help cancer organizations throughout the world establish and deliver cancer information services.

The UICC is the only international non-governmental organization dedicated exclusively to the global control of cancer. Its vision is of a world where cancer is eliminated as a major life-threatening disease. Uniting 280 cancer-fighting organizations in 84 countries, the UICC is a resource for action and a voice for change.

With a shared commitment to providing cancer information and support services, ICISG and UICC are working together on several projects that will be promoted and shared among the memberships of each organization. The projects include:

• A needs assessment of UICC members regarding establishing cancer information service
• Development of a “How to Manual”, to be launched at the UICC Global Conference in July 2006.

In November 2004, both organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding that formalizes the commitment to work together until December 2006.
