1, 2004
Actions arising from the meeting:
- Catherine will send a copy of the signed MOU between ICISG and UICC
to each member
- Catherine will contact Janice Blondeau (UICC Communications Director)
to introduce ICISG.
- Members will start preparing objectives, key points and suggested
speakers for their respective presentations to distribute to the rest
of the Board, prior to the next conference call February 16, 2006.
- Anne will send the UICC definitions for plenary, symposia, panels,
workshops etc..
- Anne will send an email to Jerry Mayburn (UICC conference planning
committee) to confirm the pre-conference course on Saturday July 8,
2006.
- Each member will forward their UICC 2004 presentation for posting
on the web.
- Anne will inquire re hosting of a quickplace to facilitate exchange
on presentations, otherwise Mary Anne will look into hosting at NCI.
- Anne will create a new page on the web to outline ICISG collaboration
with UICC.
- Anne will send possible dates for the in-person meeting during the
summer.

MEETING
1.0 Opening remarks
Anne welcomed Board members and introduced Dr Philippe Mourouga from the
Ligue nationale contre le cancer. She thanked Catherine for her outstanding
leadership in the past 3 years, and expressed her appreciation for the
commitment of the new board of directors.
Board members recognized the important contribution by Irene Miller who
has been providing administration support for the board of directors since
2001 and developed the ICISG website.
2.0 Review of the agenda, approval of minutes
Anne reviewed the agenda and indicated that the meeting would also include
a working session after lunch, for those available to attend. She confirmed
that Nancy Lins and possibly Isabel Mortara, would be joining the meeting
during the morning.
The minutes of the last conference call held on October
1, 2004 were approved as distributed.
3.0 Governance
Anne announced that 2 nominations had been received the position of ICISG
vice-president and gave a brief overview of the vice-president’s
role. She thanked the nominees and handed over the election process to
Catherine, who collected the ballots. Catherine confirmed the appointment
and, together with all present, congratulated Chris Thomsen as the new
ICISG Vice-President.
4.0 Role of Board members and proposed plan for 2004-07
Anne acknowledged that, while board members have demanding jobs within
their organization, ICISG Board members are expected to:
- Attend conference calls and in person meetings (as often as possible)
- Participate in the implementation of ICISG initiatives and activities
- Assist in helping other countries start a CIS, sharing of resources
- Be familiar with the ICISG website, and sending suggestions for improvement.
- Reply to email correspondence and contribute to the listserv
Anne presented the overall objectives for 2004-07 and board members volunteered
for the following activities:

Anne indicated that the collaboration with UICC and the conference in
2006 were the most important projects during her 3-year term.
5.0 Discussion with Nancy Lins, ACS delegate to UICC
Nancy Lins of the American Cancer Society and a delegate to UICC, joined
the meeting to present UICC strategic plans and discuss how ICISG might
play a greater role. She gave an overview of the UICC structure, governance
and membership groups.
Catherine noted the recently signed MOU between ICISG and the UICC, and
explained that the collaboration would focus on:
- Needs assessment for organization for start a CIS
- Development of a web-based “how to” manual
- Participation in track #4 planning committee for UICC 2006 conference
- Scholarships
The discussion touched on the possibility of seed grant to help support
those initiatives. Nancy Lins encouraged ICISG to continue their efforts
and suggested that we contact Janice Blondeau, UICC communications director
to introduce ICISG. Catherine agreed to contact Janice Blondeau.
While Anne attended the track #4 planning committee meeting, Doreen led
a discussion on burn out issues for nurse practitioners.
6.0 UICC 2006
Anne gave an overview of the 3 day track #4 program and the responsibilities
for ICISG.
Each board member was assigned to a small group to identify objectives,
key points and potential speakers for the ICISG presentations. The group
mapped the program and presentations as follows:

There are 5 tracks/themes:
- Cancer research, diagnosis and treatment

- Building capacity (includes ICISG)

ICISG program:
Saturday July 8 : Pre-conference course – How to start a CIS
One day workshop for 25 participants organized by ICISG Faculty.
The workshop will be based on the How To web-based manual developed by
ICISG in collaboration with UICC. Lead: Marion Morra, Mary Anne Bright
Sunday July 9: Cancer planning and strategies
Afternoon CIS Workshops:
1) How to start a Cancer Information Service
Key points: for beginners, should include technology

Anne informed all present that the abstracts for the invited sessions
will be due in September 2005. It was agreed that members would start
preparing objectives, key points and suggested speakers for their respective
presentations to distribute to the rest of the Board prior to the next
conference call February 16, 2006. Anne will send the UICC definitions
for plenary, symposia, panels, workshops etc..

8AM (ET). Anne will send possible dates for an in person meeting
during the summer to finalize the CIS abstract for UICC 2006.
